The Forney High School Jackrabbits faced off against the North Forney High School Falcons in the much-anticipated Tenth Annual Unity Bowl at City Bank Stadium last Friday night, September 17. It was the Jackrabbits’ year to sit on the visitor’s side of the stadium as NFHS hosted as the home team this year, and the fans were happy to come fill the stands in support of their Rabbits.

The Jackrabbits’ Defense dominated the Falcons all night long in front of that packed crowd. The Jackrabbits’ Offense connected when necessary to get the lead. Ultimately the Jackrabbits stuffed the Falcons to secure a 15-7 win and get their hands on the Unity Bowl Trophy once again.

After a field goal early in the game, the Jackrabbits’ one touchdown of the night came on a pass from Quarterback Jake White to Alijah Merkson. Braden Merchant nailed two crucial field goals in the game, the one before the Rabbits’ singular touchdown on the night and one after.

The other two points for FHS came as the result of a safety in the second half by the Jackrabbits’ defense. Throughout the game, the defense put on a clinic, sacking the Falcons’ quarterback six times. The Jackrabbits also forced three turnovers and racked up 15 tackles for a loss.

Notable performances from the game include Defensive End Tristan Bennett, who had three sacks on the night, and Linebacker Ky Kennedy, who had three tackles for loss and a sack. The Jackrabbit Defense proved to be too much for the Falcons throughout the night.

After yet another excellent halftime performance by the Forney Band, Color Guard, and the Forney Highsteppers, the fans who came out for the fun under the Friday Night Lights were not disappointed. The night appropriately ended with all of the remaining FHS crowd on their feet, singing the school song and cheering as the Varsity Rabbits were presented the coveted Unity Bowl Trophy by Forney ISD Superintendent, Dr. Justin Terr y.

The Jackrabbits (2-2) continue District Play this Friday, September 24, when they host Corsicana at City Bank Stadium for Forney High School’s Homecoming Game. Kickoff is set for 7:30pm, with Homecoming festivities before the game. Check the Jackrabbit Athletics website for more information on ticket purchasing, www.jackrabbitathletics.com.
