Homecoming week in Crandall is something the whole town looks forward to each year. The entire school district takes part in festivities all week long. On Wednesday afternoon the entire town shuts down for the homecoming parade. The main attraction being the “Pirate Pride” put fourth by the football teams, cheer squads, band and other floats participating in the parade.

That “Pirate Pride” carried over to Friday night with a sellout crowd ready to cheer on their Pirates! Neither team would disappoint as it was an all-out offensive brawl. If you like high scoring back and forth games this one was for you!

Alvarado would start with the ball on the fifteenyard line. The Indians’ ten play drive consisted of nine rushes and one incomplete pass. On the ninth rush, speedy running back, #14 took it to the house from twelve yards out. It was clear that the Indians’ run game would be something the Pirate defense would have to get under control.

Coach Hardin sent out his offense and they would only need three plays to return the favor. Quarterback Jamonte Gordon-West hit his number one target Luke Moffitt in stride for an eighteen-yard touchdown reception. This would be the first of five touchdown throws on the night for West with three hundred and sixty-four-yards in the air on 12/16 completion attempts!

Alvarado took possession and was driving down the field with ease. The Indians were on their own five-yard line when they fumbled the ball on a pitch to the running back. Crandall’s 3.5 star recruit, Samuel Omosigho, dove on the ball recovering it for the Pirates! West marched back on the field and took just three plays to find the endzone once again connecting with Omosigho on an eighty-six-yard touchdown reception! Alvarado would score before the horn making it 14-14 at the end of one quarter of play.

The second quarter would not disappoint as there was a whopping six touchdowns scored between the two teams. Crandall running back Chris Abron would strike first on a three-yard touchdown run. The Indians wanted a piece of the action taking only two plays to score on a seventy-one-yard rushing touchdown. This would not deter the Pirates as Moffitt would catch his second touchdown reception from twenty-five-yards out. West wanted to get in on the action finding the endzone himself on a oneyard rushing touchdown. The Indians would score one more time before West and Moffitt connected, for a third time, on a fifty-four-yard touchdown reception. This made the score 41-28 Crandall at the half.

The halftime festivities saw both bands perform their shows and the crowning of king and queen. That honor went to Jordan Garcia and Maya Torres. Congratulations to the both of them!

The third quarter started off with a bang as Abron took it to the house from sixty-one-yards out. The next offensive series would see Abron score again from two yards out. Abron closed the night out with one hundred and twenty-nine-yards rushing on thirteen attempts for three touchdowns. The Indians would get one score in the third on a thirty-five-yard touchdown toss making the score 54-35 Crandall. It just didn’t feel right to close out the quarter until West and Moffitt connected with each other once more. They did on a forty-seven-yard reception in the endzone. With that catch Luke Moffitt closed the night out with one hundred and forty-four-yards receiving on four catches with four touchdowns! The score was 61-35 Crandall at the end of three quarters of play.

The fourth quarter saw the lowest amount of scoring in the game. West ran it in from six yards out for his second rushing touchdown of the game. The Indians managed to score one more time before time expired. In the end the fast tempo offense of the Pirates wore down the Indians defense. The final score being 68-42 Crandall.

This game saw a whopping 1,269 yards of combined offense from both teams with eight hundred and eighteen yards coming on the ground.

Crandall looks to keep the momentum going as they head into district play this Friday taking on Sulphur Springs. Gametime is set for 7:30pm in Sulphur Springs.
