Forney High School’s Varsity Jackrabbits hosted Texarkana-Texas High for a Week Three matchup last Thursday night at City Bank Stadium. After a loss the previous week when they faced the Midlothian Panthers, Forney was ready to get a win on their home field. Fans were out in full force, with excellent support and performances by the Varsity Cheerleaders, Highsteppers, Forney Band, and Color Guard. The game began with our nation’s flag presented by the JROTC and the National Anthem performed by some of FHS’s very talented choir members.
Giving fans a glimpse of just what they are capable of, the Jackrabbits stormed out of the gate early and held a 13-6 lead late in the second quarter. The Jackrabbits were clicking on all cylinders for nearly the whole first half against the Tigers. Unfortunately, though, several critical mistakes by the Jackrabbits before halftime and in the second half ultimately led to a Tigers comeback, 34-13.
The Jackrabbits’ first touchdown of the night came on a powerful run by Quarterback Jake White at the goal line. The second Jackrabbit touchdown came later in the game when Running Back Jon’richard Washington plowed through the Tigers defense from the four-yard line for the score.
The Jackrabbit defense had some success for most of the night against the Tigers. Linebacker Preston Cooper led the defense with 13 tackles and a sack. Safety Josh Stephens recovered two fumbles on the night. Notable performances from the game include Linebacker Dylan Patrick who had two sacks and Defensive Lineman Jack Mayhall who also had two sacks on the night. The Jackrabbit Defense had eight sacks altogether on the night.
The Jackrabbits (1-2) begin District Play next Friday, September 17, at the Forney community’s most popular game of the season. The Unity Bowl will be played against the North Forney Falcons at City Bank Stadium with a 7:30 kickoff. The Forney Jackrabbits will sit on the visitor’s side this year.
