Mockingbird Station— Dallas, Texas—Update: Covid—19 wins! Trinity Hall was not one of the 6,406 restaurant and/or food companies in Texas to be chosen to receive a grant from the Restaurant Revitalization Fund after more than 100,00 applied nationwide.
According to Proprietor Marius Donnelly, receiving the grant would have “dramatically changed the economics moving forward.”
As stated in a previous article about the offerings and atmosphere and the “reopening plans” for Trinity Hall, the idea was to re-open in May of 2020 after closing in March of 2020, and that did happen; however, soon after re-opening, the “pub” closed again, when bars were forced to do so!
Then, about one year or so later, another re-opening was held in June, and this lasted for approximately three months—before the final closing took place close to the 20th Anniversary of the Hall! (opened in 2001)
TRINITY HALL closed without much fanfare sometime around the 1st of September, and few of us knew about that plan—or maybe it was not a plan but an occurrence! Many of my friends did not know that the place existed, and of those who did, not many know even now that it is closed. And, apparently that was the plan of the Proprietor, who said he did not want “anyone raising a glass of mourning.” Facebook postings related it as “the classic Irish good-bye, in which you sneak out without telling anyone.”
He quietly said an “Irish good-bye” as he did not sign a new lease and did not have a loud, raucous party of faithful, wild soccer fans, who so often showed up to cheer on their favorite teams. Donnelly did spend a few days cleaning up and out after posting a notice of closing on the door.
Reports say that he sometimes opened up or let the place re-main open past the legal serving hours for alcohol and just sold sodas, water, etc. so that fans could watch games that were being played in venues in differing time zones. That is my type owner and my type fans!
And, despite what I said about many of my friends not knowing about the place, there were many, many loyal fans, who came from “all walks of life—movie, food, sports, & trivia fans, casual passers-by (who liked the atmosphere and periodically returned), and meetings that took place between rounds of beer and soccer matches.”
I want to close this article (and, apparently, our chances at ever gathering there again) with this posting by Mr. Donnelly: “When you’re chewin’ on life’s gristle, don’t grumble…..give a whistle……,” and he reminded the patrons to visit the many other great Irish pubs of the Dallas area.
