Hoping to hit the ground running this week, in contrast to the difficult start of week one’s game, the North Forney Falcons came into last Friday night’s matchup against Little Elm looking to get on the scoreboard early. Little Elm’s Lobos had a similar plan, however, and sprinted to a first quarter lead of 19-0.
Despite an excellent early play that saw Falcons’ senior defensive back Marquise Edwards forcing a fumble on Little Elm’s first possession of the game and the subsequent recovery by junior linebacker B.J. Holt, North Forney’s offense was unsuccessful in using this turnover to their advantage. The Lobos offense simply proved to be too much for the Falcons defense to handle from this point forward. Little Elm was ahead 49 to 7 by halftime, a lead they increased to 63-14 by the third quarter.
But the Falcons continued to fight. Sophomore cornerbacks Aamii Branch and Isaiah Mayfield each intercepted Lobos passes in the night, proving that the Falcons defense was not going to go down easily. The Lobos answered, though, with excellent playing abilities throughout the night, only punting the ball once.
Although the Falcons struggled in their defensive game and passing game, North Forney’s running game was on point with 273 rushing yards and 46 attempts. The offense still ultimately came up short largely as a result of the slow start this week under the Friday Night Lights.
The other North Forney points came towards the end of the first half in the form of a 24-yard touchdown. Junior wide receiver Damorrea Jones evaded a defender after catching a pass from senior quarterback Nate Billings.
Notable performances of the game include three of North Forney’s players who were able to run for 79 yards or more on the ground. Sophomore running back Marquel Banks had 9 carries for 85 yards, junior quarterback Mike Phillips ended the night with 13 carries for 84 yards and 1 TD, and senior linebacker/running back Tre Jones managed 10 carries for 79 yards and 1 touchdown.
The final score last Friday night was Little Elm 63 – North Forney 20.
This week the Falcons will face the Brewer Bears on their home turf at City Bank Stadium. Come out to cheer for your North Forney Falcons! Kickoff will be at 7:30.
