For the second away game in as many weeks of season play, Forney traveled to Midlothian last Friday night. The Rabbits were set for a matchup against the formidable Panthers and their Flexbone Offense with hopes of seeing another victory already in this young season. The Panthers had their own plans, though, and kept the ball on the ground trying to wear down the Jackrabbits’ young defense throughout the night. After a rough first half, the Jackrabbits attempted another second half comeback but would ultimately come up short this week 42-13 against Midlothian.

The Varsity Cheerleaders were on the field to welcome the team out for the kickoff. And with the cheers of the Forney Highsteppers and the fans in the stand as the first quarter began, the Rabbits started to get to work. Both the offensive and the defensive efforts showed promise as the night began.

After some missed opportunities on offense in the first half and the challenge of keeping their heads clear after a few calls that were questionable in the eyes of the onlooking fans, the Jackrabbits came out of the locker room after halftime with an improved flow in the second half. This improvement was a welcome sight for the supportive crowd who had made the road trip to watch the Rabbits, however it unfortunately wasn’t quite enough for Forney to see a repeat of week one’s nail-biting win.

The Jackrabbits scored their first touchdown of the night when Offensive Lineman Alex Bowen recovered a Jake White fumble in the endzone to put the Jackrabbits on the scoreboard. Later in the second half, QB Jake White connected on a passing touchdown with Zach Fuller for the second Jackrabbit touchdown of the night.

The Jackrabbit defense fought hard to defend against the unique Midlothian offense all night. Despite the work put in under the Friday Night Lights, the defensive line was simply not able to hold the Panthers this week. However, the entire team fought hard and put in a good effort. Linebacker Preston Cooper showed great determination and led the team in tackles with nine. Safety Josh Stephens, another hard-working defensive player of the night, was second in tackles with eight.

With the Forney Band in the stands, the mood was hopeful and energetic until the clock ran out, and the team did not quit. Other notable performances from the game include Quarterback Jake White who had one passing touchdown and Linebacker Dylan Patrick with one sack.

The final score as the clock ran out was Midlothian 42 to Forney 13.

Come out to support your Forney Jackrabbits (1-1) as they host the talented Texas High Tigers from Texarkana next Thursday night at City Bank Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 pm.
