Finally, a day to celebrate parents of all kinds! It takes a certain willingness to choose to become a parent; a knowing that the life you are living will be forever changed. And the parents in Forney ISD are a pretty special collection. Now, we have all chuckled over the memes that showcase the “types” of parents that come through the pick-up line at school, the class parties, the sporting events, the daily office visits for forgotten supplies and lunches. However, the important thing to remember is that these parents show up for their kids because they take the “parent” job seriously.
The schools in the district for the most part all have a Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) on their campus that is comprised of parents who have the opportunity to do a little extra for their children’s school. These volunteers help out the teachers and staff tremendously by making copies, helping during lunch, going on field trips, and fundraising for the extras they see that are needed. For example, when the Adopt-a-Grant program was opened for the public, Johnson Elementary PTO adopted several grants for their campus. This was a win-win for the school and for the Forney Education Foundation since that action allowed FEF to fund more grants.
The Adopt-a-Grant process is open to any interested individual, group (like PTOs), or corporate friends to peruse and adopt. After the adoption window closes, then the remaining grants go to the Grant Committee for their review and possible funding--depending on the budget set up for grants.
This Parents’ Day, take the opportunity to become a “parent” for the Foundation and volunteer that little extra to make our students’ lives better. Please go to www.forneyisdfoundation.org and see your parenting options!
