Buster Automotive celebrated 40 years of business in Forney on June 15, 2021. A family-owned and operated garage, Buster Automotive got its start at the suggestion of a family member who asked Charles Buster to consider using his experience in the industry to open an automotive shop in Forney. After giving it some thought, Charles and his wife Pam relocated to Forney from Fort Worth to start their new venture.

In 1981, the young couple came to Forney, got all of their new business expenses squared away, and were left with only $15 in the bank. This only served as a motivation for them, as Charles and Pam wasted no time getting involved in the community. While working fulltime at the garage, Charles also began serving with the Forney Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter, a position he still holds four decades later, and Pam took a job with the Forney Police Department for a few years. As the business at the garage began to grow and so did their family, Pam transitioned to staying home to take on a different type of full-time task: raising the couple’s children.

Charles continued to press on with the garage, growing and expanding its services as he was able. Through the collective hard work of the staff, Buster Automotive now offers automotive services, paint/body/collision services, and a 24-hour wrecker service. These three facets of the business bring as many opportunities as they do challenges, each requiring its own equipment and skill sets but also providing a constantly changing variety of business. Running a garage like Buster Automotive would be impossible without its crew. Buster is quick to point out the vital roles his team of eight employees plays in the business’s success and comments, “I have a great group of guys. I’m really proud of them.”

Over the last forty years, times have changed, the city has grown, and the cost to run the business has increased. But Charles’ favorite aspect of his service to the community has remained the same: he loves to help people, whether that’s through his position with the Forney Fire Department or through his wrecker service. “The people you meet and try to help is overwhelming sometimes,” he says. “I love the wrecker service. It’s challenging, nothing is ever the same with that.”

Charles and Pam Buster and their family have been assisting citizens of Forney at Buster Automotive for four decades now. However, this mainstay in Forney has not only been an asset to countless people in the area, but Charles and Pam know first-hand how much it has benefitted the entire Buster family. “We’ve always been real blessed,” he comments. “We’ve had so much backing from the community and been blessed with so many friends.” Now as their family has expanded to include five children and ten grandchildren, Charles hopes that, if and when he does eventually retire, they will carry on the family business if they choose.
