Saturday, June 19, brought beautiful, sunny skies, some nice breezes, and just the right weather for a CARWASH to benefit the Forney Layden Senior Center. The official starting time for the “wash” was 10:00 a. m., but volunteers, such as Warren Middle School National Honor Society Members and various other Center staff members and volunteers, were on site already much earlier, busily preparing.
CHEYENNE MEDICAL LODGE of Sunnyvale and TRINITY HOSPICE teamed up with THREE FORKS SENIOR LIVING of Forney to organize and sponsor this fundraiser when they learned that the LAYDEN SENIOR CENTER of Forney had lost its funding during the Covid-19 Pandemic and its surrounding difficulties.
All money raised from the car wash, sales of miscellaneous items inside the Three Forks lobby (cards, games, tablets, “pretty things,” etc.), and from a raffle of a YETI Cooler (donated by Cheyenne Medical Lodge), filled with fabulous summer items, will be presented to the Layden Center.
I will probably miss someone(s) who helped, but the following are some:
Ashley Reyna, Business Development Executive with Trinity Hospice, donated items for the sack lunches.
Staff members from Three Forks washed cars—Emily Whitson, Executive Director—Tony Jackson, Clinical Manager—Alex Davis, Sales Director. And a special thanks to Tony, who also grilled more than 100 hot dogs for sack lunches!
Katherine Spiller (and parents, Andy and Maggie Spiller), President of Warren Middle School National Junior Honor Society, was able to recruit and organize other N. J. H. S. volunteers.
Also hard at work wherever needed were Denise Davis, Director of Business Development at Cheyenne Medical Lodge Health and Re-Hab. in Sunnyvale and her husband, Terry Davis.
Eilene Mayberry, Three Forks Resident Ambassador, “worked” the inside fund-raising events/items—puzzles, stationery, etc.
WINN’S LAND CLEARING, LLC—made a generous donation of $400.00.
Angela Tyler, Three Forks Activities Director, coordinated inside fundraising gathering and donations and was a “go to” person for unanswered questions.
At a late count, after Three Forks had donated an additional $400.00, the fundraiser total stands at $1700.00 to go to the Forney Layden Senior Center—and Emily Whitson, tired and a little sore from bending, rubbing off grime, and rinsing off soap, says over and over, “What a successful event and wonderful day! Thank you to everyone who helped in any way, whether you were named or not!”
Sunday afternoon update—Good News: Total stands at about $1800.00 as another donation has just come through today.
Which brings me to the thought that I am certain “Three Forks would welcome any other donations,” which might be brought or mailed in and would be passed along to the Layden Center, a place which has served our Senior Citizens for many, many years!
