Surely somebody made a mistake when this list was broadcast one morning! So, I checked, and that “somebody” was correct! 240 years total for the trio!
ANN-MARGRET: For most of my life, I have thought that “Ann” was her first name and “Margaret” was her last. Wrong again twice—this multi-talented star used “Ann-Margret” as her hyphenated “mono-name,” but she was born in Sweden on April 28, 1941, and named ANN-MARGRET OLSSON. And be sure to notice that the spelling of her name is not the traditional “Margaret.”
She has won five Golden Globe Awards and also an Emmy for a “guest appearance” on Law and Order: Special Victims Unit and been nominated for numerous other award categories.
At the beginning of her career, she was touted as the “female version of Elvis Presley” with her sultry voice and beautiful/attractive appearance. Her mother and she joined her father in the United States in 1946. Although she had minor successes in the “singing” arena, her biggest fame is as an actress!
1964—Ann-Margret and Elvis teamed up in a movie called Viva Las Vegas and recorded three songs for that movie; one made it into the final version. Rumor has it that Colonel Parker would not allow any of the three to be commercially released at that time, due to concerns that SHE would overshadow Elvis.
Some early movies: State Fair (1962); Bye Bye Birdie (1963); Viva Las Vegas (1964); The Pleasure Seekers (1964); The Cincinnati Kid (1965); Stagecoach (1966); The Tiger and the Pussycat (1967); Appointment in Beirut (1968); C. C. and Company (1970); Carnal Knowledge (1971); The Outside Man (1972); Tommy (1975)
PETE ROSE: Peter Edward Rose, Sr., is the only professional baseball player to play 500 or more Major League Games at each of five different positions and played from 1963 until 1986, often being known by the nickname of “Charlie Hustle.”
This switch-hitter was also the Manager of the Cincinnati Reds (1984-1989), is the all-time leader with 4,256 hits, 3,562 games played, 3,215 singles, and a lifetime batting average of .303!
Amazingly, he played in 17 All-Star Games at 5 different positions and won two gold gloves as an outfielder in 1969 and ’70, after being named as Rookie of the Year as he broke into the big leagues!
Rose played two separate stints for Cincinnati and also one each for Philadelphia and Montreal. I could go on and on, but I will close with the note that he was voted to the “All-Century Team.”
BOB DYLAN: “Murder Most Foul” was his first “recording single” to hit #1 on the Billboard Chart!
American-born Robert Alan Zimmerman is considered one of the greatest song writers (pop rock, folk rock, protest/political rock, contemporary and country rock music) of all time and continues to be a major/popular figure in our culture. “….his songs chronicle social and political issues” beginning in 1961 and continuing today. (see album, Fallen Angels, 2016, for proof)
Some of my favorites, written by this MUSICAL WANDERER, are “All Along the Watchtower,” “Blowin’ in the Wind,” “Bring It on Home,” “Brown Skin Girl,” “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right,” “I Shall Be Released,” “It Ain’t Me Babe,” “Quinn the Eskimo,” “Lay, Lady, Lay,” “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door.”
The final song listed above was written for the 1973 movie, Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid, and became a world-wide hit!
He has received “all types of honors” that include the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the Nobel Prize for Literature, and Grammy/Academy/Golden Globe Awards. Check him out if you do not recognize him or his songs; he has “something for everyone!”
