Moving Beyond the “Fair”
Body

One big reason I so enjoy going to the State Fair of Texas each fall is spelled— FLETCHER’S! Fresh and steaming right out of the fryer, slathered with mustard, almost blistering my tongue, this delicacy, at least for a few minutes, makes me forget that it is hot outside, plus the yard needs mowing; my legs hurt; there will probably be a traffic jam leaving the Fair area!

Well, not too long ago (relatively speaking) at a UNT football game in Denton, I strolled to the concourse area for concessions and found a portable unit, selling the “real Fletcher’s corny dogs.” Upon further investigation, I realized that they really were “real” and were priced about like at the “Fair.”

And, not too long after that discovery, I found out that Fletcher’s “pop-up units” were also selling “the real deal” around the Dallas area. As I drove past a few of these units, I saw long lines and satisfied customers.

Next, I found that another “Texas-based company” was selling “Fletcher’s” in their restaurant chains last year after the “Fair” closed and heard that they sold “thousands” in a limited run of a few weeks!

And now (Can it be true?) I hear that Golden Chick is again partnering with Fletcher’s Corny Dogs (CEO Aaron Fletcher) and will sell $5 “dogs” on Saturdays and Sundays, beginning Memorial Day weekend and running through August 1. Last year’s success greatly surpassed expectations, according to restaurant statements.

Is it going to be a success again? Well, supposedly Golden Chick, in the middle of the “pandemic,” sold more food than they ever had before during their 54-year history during the first week of September, 2020, and that is when the Fletcher’s Corny Dogs hit their area “drive-throughs.”

So, WHAT IS THE CURRENT DEAL? (1) Only available on Saturdays and Sundays (2) 87 locations across the region from Mineral Wells to Paris and in-between—mostly in the DFW area (3) will not compete with the sales at the State Fair of Texas (4) Golden Chick will guarantee that the product will be the same and will satisfy customers. If not satisfied, customers can send e-mail responses to Golden Chick with photos of the corny dogs and receipts for refunds. (5) combo adding fries and a drink for $7.99 (6) while supplies last, so make speed! *Note that Golden Chick says that the ingredients are exactly the same as what is sold at the “Fair,” with the exception of the frying—vegetable oil at the Fair and beef tallow oil at the restaurants.

I am writing this story at 3:17 a. m. and wondering if my wife will be hungry for a corny dog for breakfast later this morning! How can she resist?
