Forney resident, John Wayne Gaylord has authored a “verse by verse journey through the book of Revelation” entitled Finally Home. A project that took nearly four and a half years to complete, Gaylord has invested countless hours into the study and interpretation of this often-confusing book of Scripture. He began this undertaking while teaching the Believers Bible Study Class at First Baptist Forney, a class he led for two decades. Over the course of three and a half years, this group studied Revelation together. At the encouragement of students in the class and with the support of others in his life, his years navigating Revelation with the Believers Class prompted Gaylord to compile all of this information into one easy-to-read resource.
“I’d like for the common people that are afraid of Revelation to be comfortable studying with this book,” Gaylord notes, pointing out that many people feel overwhelmed by the study of such a complex book of the Bible. He explains that in his book his goal is to present exactly what the Scripture says. One example of this is shown when Gaylord explores several major views on the timing of the Rapture, citing scripture references for each viewpoint, and then ultimately gives his interpretation based on his studies. “Revelation is written in signs and symbols,” he says, “but I approach it in a literal interpretation.”
A graduate of Wheaton College in Illinois, Mr. Gaylord holds a bachelor’s degree in Finance with a minor in Biblical Studies. Additionally, Gaylord served as Commanding Officer of the 30th Finance Unit in the United States Military before working in banking for forty years. Since his retirement from banking, he has continued to be active, teaching the Believers Bible Study Class and as a member of the Board of Trustees for Lamb & Lion Ministries for the last 25 years. Wayne, and his wife Arlene, reside in Forney, and have two daughters, two grandsons, and three great-grandchildren.
