Dear Aunt B,
Is COVID-19 still a pandemic? What do I believe when it comes to all the COVID information out there? I see many different opinions. I am not sure who to believe.
Truth or Not Truth
Dear Truth or Not Truth,
COVID-19 is still killing people. The pandemic is still very real. To a vast majority of people in the United States it doesn’t seem as serious as it has in the past. Especially here in Texas where mandates have been lifted. Going out and about, it almost seems strange to see so many people not wearing masks. I am enjoying that as well as the next person. I admit that my relief has come more from the fact that I have received both of my vaccines than from anything the government has mandated or not mandated. I still do a moderate amount of social distancing, (hard for a hugger). I still wash my hands a bunch. I am still very cognizant of the fact that it is still a thing. I heard it put a very interesting way, that COVID-19 will stop being a pandemic and start being a regular disease for each of us at differnt times, based on our own tolerance for risk and not by statistical information.
This is a novel situation. I have never experienced a pandemic in my lifetime just like most of you. If you are asking me what I believe, which of course is just my opinion. I believe in the vaccination. This is not necessarily the Messenger’s opinion. I don’t know their opinion. This is not medical advice. I am not a doctor. This is just Aunt B’s common sense advice. I have received both of my vaccinations and I feel safer for it. I do understand this is a delicate decision for many of you.
I do believe COVID is real. I have lost people I love to the virus. I do believe that there are many symptoms that far outlast the actual virus. I believe some of the information out there is without a doubt the craziest stuff I have ever heard.I don’t believe this argument should be based on political positions.
Talk to your healthcare provider. I understand there could be underlying reasons to get or to not get the vaccine. Have these personal conversations with someone that knows your health and is commited to truth.
I have seen some of the most ridiculous information supposedly from great sources. If you must pay attention to all this information, please make sure that the information you are relying on has some basis of fact. This may be a shock to you, but not all the information you read on the internet is true. Often times, the loudest voice is what wins.
Remember, I do believe in the vaccine, so read ahead at your own peril. Some of the most interest ing complaints I have heard include the following:
“I do not want to put something unknown in my body.” However they are drinking a Red Bull, have tattoos over their body and eat hotdogs just to name a few unknown things they have put in their body.
“I don’t want the government tracking me.” I’m not sure how the government is tracking, but if you have a cell phone, sorry to break it to you but, someone is already tracking you.
“There was not enough time to develop and study this vaccine.” They have been working on this type of vaccine for a long time.
“The virus has already mutated, these vaccines will not work on the mutations. We will have to get boosters anyway.” Maybe, but I don’t understand the logic.
The top three leading causes of death are heart disease, cancer and this past year COVID. If you had the chance to take a vaccination, and have a 95 out of 100 chance of not getting heart disease, would you take it? If you had the chance to take a vaccination and have a 95 out of 100 chance of not getting cancer, would you take it? This factor alone caused me to rolled up my sleeve and get my vaccines. I am hoping you do as well.
Love,
Aunt B
