Three Public Education Bills Passed in the House
The House passed three of my bills on third reading last week. HB 1468 expands and improves virtual learning options, HB 2120 provides a timeline for resolving grievances in school districts, and HB 3938 ensures our career and technology courses are aligned with our state’s workforce needs. These bills are about the children of this great state, flexibility, and local control!
House Passes Proposed State Budget
The Texas House spent 12 hours discussing and passing the budget for the next biennium. Senate Bill 1 provides a conservative framework to address Texas’ growing needs while also addressing the Legislature’s commitment to public education and retired teachers. Senate Bill 1 appropriates $247 billion, a reduction of $18 billion, including $41 billion for Texas schools, maintains $800 million for border security and $5 billion for the Teacher Retirement System.
Protecting the 2nd Amendment
Texans support the 2nd Amendment and will not abandon their rights to liberal extremists in Washington, D.C.
I voted to support HB 2622 to make Texas a 2nd Amendment Sanctuary State and am proud to be a Co-Author on this legislation. I will always fight to protect the right of Texans to defend themselves!
Protecting our Law Enforcement I was proud to co-author House Bill 1900 to ensure that communities throughout the state cannot “defund” the police.
I stand with our law enforcement officers and believe it is important that we ensure that the safety of our state is not threatened by these movements. House Bill 1900 passed in the House and is on its way to the Senate!
Supporting First Responders
HB 541 was passed on the House Floor to ensure that the individuals who have kept us safe and healthy during the pandemic are properly compensated.
I voted for HB 541 and will continue to support those who give so much back to our community.
Teacher Appreciation Week
Teacher Appreciation Week was May 3-May 7!
I appreciate all of the work that Texas teachers do for our students and will continue to support them in the Texas House.
Invocation at the Republican Caucus Meeting
I was asked to give the invocation at the Republican Caucus Meeting before the House convened. My faith is exceptionally important to me and am honored for the opportunity.
Mabank Volunteer Fire Department Fish Fry Enjoyed a great fish
Enjoyed a great fish fry with Judge Blair and Judge Gray compliments of the Mabank VFD! It is always a pleasure to spend time with our first responders and support their efforts to keep our communities safe.
Proposed Pro-Life Legislation
I laid out pro-life legislation, House Bill 1291 in the Committee on Public Health, requiring the right to object to participating in an abortion procedure for health care personnel. Individual liberties of Texans should always be defended, especially in the courageous act of protecting unborn children. Thank you, Texans For Life and Texas Alliance for Life for your support and commitment to advancing pro-life legislation!
