Nine Forney High School students recently qualified for the UIL Texas State Solo & Ensemble Competition which is usually held in June in Austin. This year’s competition will be a video submission to be adjudicated in late May.

Students advancing to state are Freshmen Jen Crabtree, Madison Hays, Hunter Wetzel; Sophomore Cody Burns; Juniors Ashley Camp and Ashlyn Chism and Seniors Emily Bohmer, Aimee Flatt and Tori Sneed. In order to participate at the district level competition all students must be in good standing academically. To qualify for the state competition, a student must perform a Class One (hardest level of difficulty) memorized song and receive a First Division rating from the judge. At state, ratings range from First to Fifth Division, with First and Second Division ratings receiving gold and silver medals respectively.

Mrs. Stephens stated: “I am so proud of these students for working toward and achieving this goal in this difficult year. Last year, in the early months of the pandemic, the decision was made to cancel the competition, so I am very glad UIL has found a way to have this event this year. We will be submitting the very best videos we can achieve and see how it goes.”
