The federal government has spent approximately $2.7 trillion under the guise of coronavirus relief over the past year. I have opposed much of this spending in part due to radical liberal provisions which had nothing to do with the pandemic that were woven into the packages.
The United States is now staring down over $28 trillion in national debt, almost all of which will fall on the shoulders of our children and grandchildren. President Biden and his left-wing allies in Congress show no signs of slowing down this out-of-control spending. They aim to spend an additional $3 trillion on a liberal wish list being touted as an “infrastructure plan”.
The price tag alone should tell you he intends to move forward with only far-left Democrat support, but the specifics of his package are what drive that point home. This infrastructure plan is not just focused on roads and bridges. It includes $1 trillion in liberal agenda items and social welfare that have nothing to do with this country’s infrastructure.
The announcement of President Biden’s new agenda makes a few things abundantly clear. First, he believes we can spend ourselves out of debt. Second, he thinks he can continue to spend trillions on left-wing proposals while lying to the American people about where the money goes. That is not how we should do business in this country.
I could support legislation that provides targeted funding for infrastructure projects. That does not mean trillions in spending, nor does it mean we should include unrelated social welfare in this bill.
President Biden insisted he would be the unity president, willing to receive input from his political opposition. We are approaching his first 100 days in office and I have yet to see him extend the olive branch.
It is past time to rein in the out-of-control spending. If we fail to balance our budget, we will never shed the crippling weight of our national debt. As President Biden’s transportation package stands, it will only dig us deeper into a hole we desperately need to get out of. I am committed to the fight against wasteful, politically motivated spending.
