I’m not taking the 2nd one!
Body

I’m 70 years of age and have hypertension (high blood pressure). I received my first vaccine shot February 9, and it made my arm sore but not much else that I noticed. I received my second shot on March 9, and today, March 20, I still have a little sore spot in the middle of my upper arm. For about a day and one-half after the second vaccine, I had a pretty sore arm and felt very “blah,” just not really wanting to do much of anything or eat even really tasty food! I received the “Moderna” vaccinations.

But, I have some friends and acquaintances who have really complained about how terrible they felt after both the first and second shots and have voiced the sentiments that if they had known what reactions they would have, there would have been NO VACCINATIONS of/for them!

So, you know research paper writer Themer! I did some research about the vaccinations. (1) Most folks report that it was the second shot that really hit them hard. Symptoms included sore arm (injection site redness, swelling, pain), headache, nausea, tiredness, body muscle pain, chills, fever of even up to more than 104 degrees for awhile.

(2) Two of the three vaccines available in the U. S. require two doses that are recommended to be three or four weeks apart. One, Johnson and Johnson, is just one shot.

(3) Doctors say that it is the second dose that sometimes/often really “packs a punch” for a little while— my contacts all stated that the side-effects were over at the end of day three or before.

(4) However, experts say that “side effects” are signs that the vaccine(s) is/ are “doing the job.” They also relate that side effects up to high fevers and extreme body aches and lethargy soon pass and are well worth the protection against the pandemic.

(5) Experts also say that the second dose is the one more likely to cause side effects that are more than just minor nuisances.

(6) Experts also state that the first and second doses are EXACTLY THE SAME—yes, exactly the same! The first gets the system ready so that it will be primed to set up an even stronger reaction the second time around and provide “vigorous, long-lasting protections” against the THE VIRUS!

(7) The same experts have concluded that not all people get even small reactions (side effects), and that is O.K. Research has shown that the body is still being protected.

(8) As with any medicine, there have been a few reports of “severe” reactions/allergic reactions, but that statistically speaking, they have been RARE! Pharmacists, doctors, and others administering the vaccines have been advised to have vaccinated people monitored for fifteen to thirty minutes to be sure no strong reactions occur, so that they can receive immediate treatments if needed.

(9) So far, my research says that the vaccinations are about 90-96 per cent effective for stopping transmissions of the VIRUS and/ or radically reducing the severity, and that it is recommended for patients eighteen years of age and older. The things I have read and have learned from talking to “medical” people is that the vaccinations are recommended for people who HAVE and HAVE NOT suffered from infection by the corona virus or been carriers with no symptoms.

The same Pharmacist who injected me both times (with no pain), asked me to stick around the store for fifteen or twenty minutes and to report any problems or special symptoms and to wave as I was leaving. I had no problems (troubles breathing, hives, swelling of the throat, itches, pains) and what did show up later (after second shot) took several hours to occur and was relatively/moderately mild by my standards!

My advice, after falling prey to the “Real Covid Deal” at the end of November, is to take the vaccines if at all possible. I was “sicker than a sick dog” and stayed that way for about three weeks and then felt “not really good” for another two or three weeks. My comparison of the vaccines to the disease is like a bruised arm compared to a broken one!

But, there is no “M. D.” after the name of Don Themer (Right, Lawrence?), so be sure to follow your doctor’s advice or follow your own feelings after considering all the possibilities.
