Subtle moves give rise to big outcomes when education is involved. Sometimes it’s realizing which students’ personalities work together the best and the teacher then puts them on the same project. Sometimes it’s asking a few quick questions to begin the class that get the mind working. Sometimes it’s a few yoga stretches and mindfulness exercises that make for better concentration on difficult concepts.
It is the true educational professional that recognizes the needed subtle touch their students will benefit from most. There have been teacher-requested grants that the Forney Education Foundation has funded that have utilized subtle and effective change in FISD classrooms. Furniture that allows movement so the student can concentrate on the lesson; or supplies in baskets attached to desks so class can begin more efficiently; or even colored ink for printers that enhances non-verbal communication images to grow a student’s abilities and vocabulary.
The teachers in Forney ISD work constantly, learning themselves as they participate in continuing education courses that also employ subtle techniques. These courses help the teachers learn new ways to teach their subject or create environments to better foster learning. FEF’s Grant Committee knows when there have been breakthroughs in subtle teaching styles because the requested grants expand their scope. And amazing grants make choosing which ones to fund more difficult, but that is a challenge the Committee readily takes on. The Forney Family has enthusiastically embraced the Adopt-A-Grant Program and made a bigger difference in more students’ lives.
The Forney Education Foundation realizes that its success is due to the many, many generous benefactors that have listened to our story and been moved to make a donation–some big and some small–but all with a recognition of how important the extras that FEF funds for teachers and students creates better futures for us all.
