District Attorney Erleigh Norville Wiley announced Friday March 12th the conviction of Taylor Blake Craft, 26, for Trafficking of Persons: Continuous, a firstdegree felony offense, and Possession of Child Pornography, a third-degree felony offense. On May 31, 2019, a grand jury indicted Craft with Possession of Child Pornography and on December 13, 2019, a grand jury indicted Craft with Trafficking of Persons: Continuous. On March 11, 2021, after reaching a plea agreement with the District Attorney’s Office, Craft pled guilty to both offenses before the Honorable Judge Casey Blair in the 86th District Court of Kaufman County.
After Craft’s plea of guilty to both offenses, in accordance with the plea agreement, the Court sentenced Craft to 35 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (“TDCJ”) for Trafficking of Persons: Continuous and 10 years in the TDCJ state penitentiary for Possession of Child Pornography. Craft is now required to register as a sex offender for life.
Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Heather Ragsdale, Jennifer Ponder, and Trial Chief Marc Moffitt led the prosecution and District Attorney Investigator Daniel Hargrove assisted. We would like to recognize Texas Rangers Bruce Sherman and Chad Matlock, Department of Public Safety Special Agent Maury Buford, Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Jimmy Weisbruch, Mesquite Police Department Investigator Chris Quigley, Rocky Hill Police Department Detective Cherie Dery of Rocky Hill, Connecticut, and the Kaufman County Children’s Advocacy Center, and other state agencies that assisted with the prosecution of this case, and helped send a clear message that crimes against children are not tolerated in Kaufman County.
