Yes, it really is March, but I am not quite sure that the “cold is over.” In my memories are recollections of really cold spells and some quite heavy snow showers. But, I realized I was not physically “46” any more when I wrestled with the “Big C.” Maybe my memory is not “46” either! Let’s look at snow in March first. Keep in mind that this is for DFW and not for the outlying areas, which vary greatly!

On March 4, 2019, the low temperature was (22 degrees)…..March 3, 2002, the low was (17 degrees)….. March 2, 1980, the low was (16 degrees)….. March 11, 1948, the low was (12 degrees)…..March 19, 1923, the low was (16 degrees)….. March 2, 1922, the low was (18 degrees)…..March 7, 1920, the low was (20 degrees).
And, if we think we had it bad this recent cold spell, the winter of 1977-1978 had an AVERAGE TEMPERATURE of (39.5 degrees) and recorded 62 days of a FREEZING TEMPERATURE or lower. Farther north, the QUAD CITIES— IA/IL “area”—had about 53 total inches of snow.
Oh, by the way for you guys who like it hot, the earliest ever 100 DEGREES day in Dallas was recorded on March 9, 1911.
By the way again, I checked the above statements on more than one site, and they seem to be true! (allowing for discrepancies due to varying reporting stations) For example, the recent night that we set a DFW record for –2 degrees, an unofficial “official” weather reporter in Terrell, TX, reported –7, and I believe it was –4 for an hour or two on the Themer “thermo.” And I remember that one time in February it snowed pretty heavily, and the weather station at Dallas, Love Field, reported 7.5 inches of snow when it all stopped around midnight. My Dad went out and reported that on top of his car in our driveway in Forney, the snow completely covered a one foot “golden rule Coca-Cola ruler!” And Mom witnessed his measuring and reporting and verified it as TRUE!
