I have noticed that, at least with several of our family members as they have aged to the “golden years,” television shows from their earlier TV-watching days have once again become FAVORITES! Several of my friends have mentioned the same thing about their parents and relatives, too. Plus, I have heard quite a few folks lamenting the lack of “good, clean, interesting, and easy to follow television that can be viewed by parents and children together or with them alone at the set, or by families and friends sitting down together.
So, let me tell you about a station on “our cable” that might be just right for you guys! I happened upon GUNSMOKE one late evening/early morning when I just could not sleep and was channel surfing, and it was a 1954 segment. Wow, there were Marshall Dillon and Miss Kitty and Doc at the Longbranch, and I was taken back to watching this show with my folks in our house on Maple Street.
The station is called “ME TV HD” and can be found at channel 1136 on our provider, which is AT&T U-Verse—but I know they are not the only provider of this source! I believe it is part of one of the “packages,” according to the “Boss,” who sets all that stuff up at our house out in Jesse English’s Addition in Talty.
Let me give you some samples of shows that aired during one 48-hour period not long ago.
1. Gilligan’s Island—“So Sorry, My Island Now”—1965.
2. The Fugitive—“Runner in the Dark”— 1965.
3. Perry Mason—“The Case of the Crafty Kidnapper”—1966.
4. The Waltons—“The Spoilers”—1974.
5. The Big Valley—“The Velvet Trap”—1966.
6. Petticoat Junction—“The Courtship of Floyd Smoot”—1963.
7. The Flintstones—“The Story of Rock’s Raiders”—1966.
8. Bonanza—“The Pursued”—1966.
9. Wagon Train—“The Mavis Grant Story”—1962.
10. Mama’s Family—“The Best Policy”—1987.
11. The Love Boat—“Hidden Treasure: Picture from the Pages”—1985.
12. Green Acres—“The Agricultural Student”—1968.
13. Highway Patrol—“Convict’s Wife”—1957.
14. Andy Griffith—“If I Had a Quarter-Million”—1965.
I also watched for a few minutes one Saturday morning when cartoons were featured. (O. K., so I watched for more than a few minutes!) The Three Stooges show was featured that morning, and I sat there and remembered fondly one long ago morning when my Dad laughed at me for wasting my time on such nonsense—and then when I went into the kitchen for a drink of water, I peeked around the corner to see Paul Themer doubled over in laughter as “Curly” was finally retaliating against “Mo” and getting the best of him!
Anyway, you might “check out” this station for some good “old-time” family viewing, especially if you have passed the age of 46, which I did a few years ago!
