I hope that most of you know that I own Flower Basket. And today, you will all learn that my birthday is on Friday. According to my children, these two facts make it impossible to shop for me (“What are we gonna get a florist the week of Valentine’s Day? Flowers?”) so they’ve worked very hard to make my birthday gifts meaningful; and every gift they give is that much more special because I know that they gave it so much thought.
And as a florist, I also know how important it is to think thoroughly about the kinds of gifts the you give people—Are they going to like it? Is it appropriate for the occasion? Will it arrive on time? And as a member of the Forney Education Foundation for over a decade, I’ve had the joy of thinking thoroughly about the grants that we’ve given out to members of the Forney Family. Since the fall of 2008, the Foundation has been purchasing the equipment and materials that our teachers have carefully considered and decided will help FISD students’ grow their gifts. At the Foundation we know how much thought our teachers give to their classrooms, because we get to see them go above and beyond to make sure that their students’ educations are just that little bit more special. As a mom who’s gotten to raise Forney ISD students, one of the gifts I give myself is getting to see how meaningful, careful, and thoughtful our teachers are—working with FEF means I get a little jolt of FISD birthday cake whenever I need it.
