In this climate of uncertainty that is becoming our new sense of normal, I have found myself increasingly hopeful we will emerge a better, cohesive more caring America; especially as it relates to education. I have seen so many creative approaches to teaching children, some of these methods should remain long after COVID19 is a distant memory. This predicament has forced us to look at education, health and life differently and with hopefully, a new appreciation for each.

Some teachers are reporting positive experiences with virtual classrooms. Others, not so much. Some parents report they are experiencing success teaching their children at home. Others are reaching out to teachers for help. Then there are those who can’t wait until schools open again. While the alternatives are not perfect for everyone, they are beneficial for some and should be considered moving forward. Perhaps the one-size-fits-all approach to education can emerge as the one-size-fits-some model that it is, making room for innovative approaches to teaching children born of necessity during the COVID19 outbreak.

Experiencing this global health crisis has forced the world to look at life differently, redefine our priorities, and change or evolve as required to survive the COVID season. Every aspect of our lives must evolve, especially education. Rather than viewing change in education as one more hurdle to clear to get back to normal, perhaps America can embrace the options that have arisen out of this unfortunate occurrence. Hopefully we can work toward implementing what worked or has the potential to work as a permanent part of our education system.

I applaud every parent and educator everywhere who are working hard every day to ensure children are learning. For those parents or teachers who are struggling or feel they need assistance with resources, strategies, food or any support, please reach out to your local school districts and educators for help. I can be reached at the email address below for help as well. Together, America will get through this and emerge stronger than ever.
