Forney ISD school counselors are actively engaged in helping students examine their abilities, strengths, interests and talents; for working in a partnership with parents as they encounter the challenges of raising children in today’s world; for focusing on positive ways to enhance students’ social/personal, educational and career development; and working with teachers and other educators to provide an educational system where students can realize their potential and set healthy, realistic and optimistic aspirations for themselves. Forney ISD counselors are professional school counselors who are certified, experienced educators with a master’s degree in guidance and counseling. The combination of their training and experience makes them an integral part of the total educational program.
Forney ISD counselors listen to students’ concerns about academics as well as social and emotional problems. They organize peer counseling programs and refer students to psychologists and other mental health resource programs as well as help students process their problems and plan goals and actions for them. They mediate conflict between students and teachers and work to improve parent/teacher relationships. They also prepare students to be college or career ready.
The Forney ISD counselors have been a key factor for support and academic success during the COVID-19 pandemic. They have worked hard to help many students work through social and emotional issues due to the pandemic as well as students who are struggling academically due to the varying instructional processes this year.
