Thursday, January 22, State Representative Keith Bell (R - Forney) filed House Bill 1291 on the 48th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, requiring notice of the right to object to participation in an abortion procedure for health care personnel of a hospital, medical school, or health care facility.

“Individual liberties of Texans should always be defended and especially in the courageous act of protecting unborn children. Those that do not wish to end the life of an unborn child should not be penalized for their values and belief system. Though this legislation failed to pass last session, I will continue to push for its passage in the 87th and any other legislation that honors everyone’s God-given right to life.” Bell said.

HB 1291 requires a hospital or healthcare facility to provide written notice to each physician, nurse, staff member, or employee that the individual has the right to object to perform an abortion directly or indirectly, that the hospital or facility is prohibited from discriminating against the individual, and that the individual may be entitled to remedies for a violation.
