Dear Aunt B,
Do you do meal planning? I am really trying to get on the good side of eating and there is so much information out there. I am not sure where to begin.
Stuffed but not full
Dear Stuffed but not full,
Our bodies are so miraculous. They take the crap we give them and try to make some good out of it. You have me on my soapbox now. Not because I am so great at this all the time but because I feel this could be one of the biggest issues facing us right now. Our bodies need nutrition and most of us are falling short on this issue.
It makes me laugh when I hear someone saying they don’t want the covid vaccination because they don’t know what’s in it and they are sitting there with a Red Bull in front of them. Oh here I go to the soapbox that I mentioned earlier. Pardon the digression. Meal planning right?
I think meal planning is a fabulous thing. It allows us to prepare for the times when we don’t have time to make healthy decisions. Meal preparation is even better. There are so many different eating styles and I sure don’t know which one works for each of you. Whatever you choose, planning is your first step to success.
DISCLAIMER: You surely have figured out by now that I am not a doctor, so always check with your healthcare practitioner concerning what is right for your body,
Things I know: (Again I’m not a Doctor)
Most people don’t get enough water. Please filter and drink your water. Refined carbohydrates are not healthy.
Sugar is evil.
Fruits and vegetables are powerhouses of nutrition.
Processed foods are generally not healthy. (Do your own processing.)
Exercise is imperative for health but weight loss usually comes down to what we put in our mouths.
Fruit juice is not generally healthy. It has way too much sugar. Much better to eat your fruit whole.
Soda and energy drinks are really bad for you.
Most energy bars are glorified candy bars.
Oh yes, back to original question: meal planning. When planning your meals make sure you have all the food groups involved. Protein, carbohydrates (complex) and fats are all necessary for good health. If you are a snacker plan for those as well. I have found that when I am really hungry or stressed and don’t have a healthy option quickly and readily available I will mess up.
There is a plethora of food preparation meals on the market. I really haven’t used any of them so no recommendations here. Again, my advice would be to go with as little processed food as possible.
So bottom line, I think meal planning is a great idea. I think meal prep is an even better idea. I personally am trying to go back to basics. Good clean food in moderate amounts. Good luck; this is a worthy endeavor.
Love,
Aunt B
