Last week, Forney ISD Superintendent, Dr. Justin Terry, along with the FISD Board of Trustees officially opened the new Animal Science Center located adjacent to North Forney High School. At a ribbon-cutting event on January 11, which featured remarks by Dr. Terry and Board President Greg Pharris, attendees had the opportunity to tour the facilities.

This new addition to FISD houses both indoor and outdoor animal stalls, as well as a veterinary medicine building that provides students from North Forney High School and Forney High School with a dedicated space to gain experience in veterinary medicine.

Additionally, this building houses Off the Leash, a student-run dog daycare center that offers daily and weekly boarding as well as basic grooming services. Open to the public, Off the Leash serves the Forney community Monday through Friday following the district calendar and is a valuable asset to the area. The vision of Off the Leash – to provide exceptional offleash dog play in a safe, fun, loving, well-supervised, and clean environment – also affords students the chance to exercise the vet med services they are learning with the additional benefit of practicing entrepreneurial and business-related skills.

Forney ISD’s mission to “Inspire Students Through Innovative Education” is brought to life in this most recent addition to the District. The Forney ISD Animal Science Center is expected to serve as a place for students to gain handson experience as they advance in their knowledge of animal care.
