At the beginning of a year, it is a good time to look toward the future. Forney Education Foundation awarded the teacher-requested grants in mid-December giving strong employment prospects to students at both high schools. After a year of uncertainty, we can all look forward to the great things our students will be doing.
At Forney High School for example, Ross Jones requested a grant funding a CNC ( Computer Numerical Control ) router machine that will allow the students to work with wood, plastic, and different types of composite substances in teaching about manufacturing with a computer-aided device. The students will be able to manufacture precision cut products such as award plaques, faculty nameplates, small pieces of furniture as well as a plethora of other projects. Once the students master the use of this innovative technology they will be prepared to enter the workforce in manufacturing positions that use this technology. At North Forney High School Angelique Arteaga requested for her psychology students models of the brain, ear, and eye so that the students can explore and build together the models so they can better understand the complexities of these body parts in relation to how the mind works. The collaboration between peers in the classroom will add to their better understanding.
These professional educators know that engaging students in hands-on learning will not only enhance the academic side of the learning but also give them flexible skills to face an uncertain future.
