Body

Dear Aunt B Readers,

Well well, 2020 finally comes to a close. I guess most of us are not naive enough to think just because the calendar is changing all this mess will be cleared up. But it would be nice. Anyway 2020 will not be easily forgotten. So how now, in a positive way, are you going to make changes in 2021? Or did you decide it is just too much work and you are just going to stay the same? Sorry to break it to you, but nothing stays the same. So I guess we need to decide, are we changing for the better or for the worse. So whether you make a New Year’s resolution or not, how will you change in 2021?

Just this very moment I decided that I am going to be kinder in 2021. This is a little trick I am playing on myself probably because I know I am kindest to others when I am taking good care of myself. So I would love you to join me. I challenge you for 2021 to take better care of yourself.

How do you take care of yourself? For many of you, taking care of yourself is the last thing on your mind. You just have too much else to do. This seems a little counterintuitive but doing some self care will actually allow you to do more and to do it better. These self care things don’t have to be huge and often look alot like things you may already be doing but with a little twist.

You bathe, right? Why not, put some epsom salt into your bath to reduce muscle soreness. Now remember, Aunt B is not a doctor. If there is a medical reason you should not do any of the things I suggest, check with your doctor first.

What about breathing? You guys are doing that, right? Try “Youtube” for some new breath techniques. I find that I hold my breath a lot. Often I don’t take a good breath until I notice that I need to. This is not a good thing. Just imagine the changes a body goes through if it is not getting oxygen on a regular basis. Learn better breathing and teach it to the ones you love.

What about movement? You move, right? Start wherever you are. Just move more and on a more regular basis. I started last year getting on the floor once per day. Embarrassed to admit, it wasn’t pretty. If that is too much, pick anything. If you are already moving quite nicely, how might you up the game a little?

Drink filtered water. Period, hands down my favorite self care thing to do. Sorry to be the one to break this to you: soda does not count. If you just can’t stand the taste of water, get over yourself. Add a little lemon or lime.

Bottom line, find things you love to do and do more of them. Fit them in whenever and wherever you can. Your wellbeing will thank you for it.

Finally, I would invite you to take out your crystal ball and look at this time next year. What needs to happen for you to declare 2021 a stellar year? Start work on that.

Have a Happy New Year!

Love,

Aunt B
