The influence of the coach should never be underestimated. To paraphrase DW Rutledge, school teaches kids what they need to make a living; the coach is teaching students how to live.
The centerpiece of FISD Athletics philosophy is LEAD. Leadership is influence and impact on others; Effort is a daily choice evident in mindset and work ethic; Attitude is exhibited in personal character and a positive approach to life; Determination is the persistence of will, mental and physical endurance, and spiritual strength.
We believe the three greatest professional characteristics of the coach are Honesty, Loyalty, and Integrity. We hope each coach embraces priorities of Faith, Family, and Forney.
FISD Athletics is fortunate to operate with a staff full of people who exhibit these qualities – all of them striving, none of them perfect, but certainly a group of individuals dedicating their professional lives each day to great teaching and coaching, and even more importantly, to being great human beings.
Reminders of this are continuous – selfless service, compassionate encouragement, consistent instruction, clear direction, sage advice, modeling of ethics and professionalism. Love of the game is obvious in the coach, but so is love of the lesson – and of young people. This is evident in the coach’s work, though not always visible on the scoreboard.
The coach wields a powerful influence!
Coach Jeremy Morgan embodied all of the above. Our Department wishes to thank the Morgan Family for sharing their son, brother, husband, and dad with us. J-Mo influenced everyone he encountered, sometimes subtly, sometimes mightily, and always positively.
The young people he served were blessed to be his WHY, but even us old ones will always remember his influence.
