The ending of this year can not come soon enough for some people; such a different year than we envisioned in December, 2019. However, there have been many lessons taught by the ongoing events and some have actually been learned. We have learned that the teachers and staff in Forney ISD are an extremely resourceful and caring group of individuals since they were given a two week window to create the ‘how’ to finish the school year last spring. And then they managed to finish the year out in a pretty amazing way virtually. These educational professionals missed their students as much as the students missed them--only great teachers love their students like their own and FISD has many, many great teachers! They had driveby celebrations and socially distant visits, zoom meetings with students and other teachers, and celebrations for the end of school.

Then the beginning of the new school year began with many campuses at 50% or less capacity to protect staff and students. And once again, the amazing educational professionals in FISD swung into action by creating virtual classes or in-person learning. Parents were given the option to choose which style would be best for their families. After the first quarter, there were students that stayed virtual and there were students who came into their respective schools for inperson learning. And, once again, the teachers, administrators, and staff handled the change like the professionals they are.

Forney Education Foundation has just concluded the second annual Adopt-a-Grant and teacher-requested grant period. The requests were outstanding in their diversity and recognition of the needs for the diverse students that make up FISD. This year, there were 74 grants submitted by teachers and staff and soon the funded grants will be revealed! To see the best day of the year (even in 2020!) unveiled when the Grant Train rolls through Forney, go to www.forneyisdfoundation.org . And if you wish you had adopted a grant or even want to donate, please remember that even a little bit goes a long way with the Foundation!
