Local high school senior, Skye Hoover, signed her National Letter of Intent to join the diving team with Ouachita Baptist University on November 20. The daughter of Jeff and Desiree Hoover, Skye has been a member of the Forney High School dive team for all four years of her high school career. She began her freshman year as a member of the swim team but noticed a need for a girl to join the dive team, so she stepped in to fill that need. Brand new to diving at that time, Skye had a background in gymnastics which, combined with private lessons, aided in her growing skillset on the diving board. Also key to her success is the tremendous support of her coaches and family.
Throughout her high school diving career, Hoover has held multiple records for FHS. Winning both district and regional multiple years, Skye also placed 16th overall in the 5A Division at State in her junior year and made the All-District and All-Region Team. Notably, Hoover was the very first diver from Forney ISD to score a point in diving and achieve a ranking for FISD at a state level.
Coach Jason Thompson has witnessed first-hand the improvements and leadership that Hoover has exhibited through these years. When discussing her accomplishments, C o a c h Thompson mentioned that Skye attends her private lessons not only for her own personal improvement but also to bring those lessons back to share with her teammates. “She’s the reason we’re so successful,” he said.
With an obvious love of water, Sky is also a certified Advanced Open Water Scuba Diver. She loves camping, traveling, and exploring, and plans to become a Texas State Game Warden upon her graduation from Ouachita Baptist University.
