On Friday, November 20, the Forney Jackrabbits battled Corsicana for the second time this year. In a hard hitting, hard fought battle, the Jackrabbits had the ball at the close of the fourth quarter to attempt to tie the game, but ultimately came up short at the end. The Jackrabbits won the second half and were “special on special teams”, but just could not finish off the Tigers. The final score was 21 for the Corsicana Tigers to 14 for the Forney Jackrabbits.
Defensively the Jackrabbits were bolstered by the play of Dal Ndzishangong. For the night, Dal registered 3 assisted tackles, 9 solo tackles, 3 tackles for a loss, and several big hits that helped to strengthen the home team’s spirits! Freshman Seth Hyder had an interception and Sebastian Slater had 4 tackles and was pointed out for his hard play. Defensive end Chase Berg recorded 2 solo tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, and a pass break up.
The Rabbits continued their stellar special teams play. Junior punter Brayden Merchant had a 36 yard average for the night, but the real key was that he and the punt team pinned Corsicana inside its 10 yard line two times and inside the 20 yard line five times. Sophomore Will Wimberly made his debut for the Jackrabbits by returning punts for a 9 yard average. He was fearless and was on the verge of breaking every one of them for long gains.
Offensively, the Tigers committed to stop the Jackrabbit running game. Junior Jon’Richard Washington continued his tough running by gaining 55 yards on very difficult runs. Dal Ndzishangong put the Jackrabbits in the end zone with a hard three yard run behind Alex Bowen, Zach Brown, Bryce Coleman, Stephen Thrasher, Adam Long, Reece Mercer and Garret Andaverde. Quarterback Noah Garcia entered the game and the offense started to click. Garcia was 17 for 28 for 245 yards. He threw a perfect strike to junior Andrew Gafford for a 71 yard touchdown. Gafford had 2 catches for 75 yards for the night, sophomore Ronnie Harrison had 4 catches for 59 yards, junior Zack Fuller made 3 for 28 yards, and Brayden Kirkland had 9 catches for 77 yards.
Despite the disappointment in the final score, the Jackrabbits battled from the opening kickoff to the final whistle.
Though they were scoreless in the first half, the Rabbits worked hard in the second half to try to close the gap. With all the distractions out there, lesser young men might have given little effort or might have given up. But not your Forney Jackrabbits. The head official made a special effort to compliment these young men by stating that they were warriors but were also such gentleman on the field and he could feel that there was a true brotherhood on the team.
The Jackrabbits have this week off and will enjoy Thanksgiving at home. They are sched uled to finish the season on December 4, 2020 when Sulphur Springs comes to town for the last game of the year. The Jackrabbits will be one of the few area teams who will have the opportunity to play all 10 games this year. Let’s help our boys finish the season the right way by coming out and supporting the team one more time in 2020!
