NubAbility® Athletics Foundation announced the non-profit held a two-day camp on November 14th from 9:00 am to 5:00 p.m. and November 15th from 9:00 am to 1:30 p.m. at the Lanny Fraser Middle School in Mesquite, Texas. The event was open to children ages 4-17 with congenital or traumatic limb loss who wish to improve their basketball, football or tumble/cheer skills. NubAbility helps limb-different children across the country develop greater self-esteem by providing them with instruction in 22 mainstream, organized sports.

“Children with limb loss are regularly confronted with negative portrayals in popular culture and regarded as ‘less than’ by society at large,” said NubAbility founder and executive director Sam Kuhnert. “We know what amazing things these children can do. We also know that true knowledge of self-worth has to come from inside. When these kids set and achieve goals at one of our camps, they prove to themselves that they are capable of more than they imagined and perfectly created just the way they are.”

Many children attending a NubAbility camp for the first time have never met another person with limb loss. “It is so important for kids’ development that they have role models like our limb-different coaches, friendships with other limbdifferent kids and opportunities to push themselves to excel,” Kuhnert said. “We are excited to be bringing the NubAbility experience back to Texas!”

NubAbility previously held camps in Mesquite in 2018 and 2019. To learn more about the organization’s programs, please visit www.nubability.org.
