The Jackrabbits fell to the number one team in 5A football last Friday night, the Ennis Lions. In typical 2020 and Friday the 13th style, last week’s game got started under unusual circumstances with the officials arriving one hour and 20 minutes late. When they arrived, they were given a standing ovation by the crowd!

Forney simply could not seem to stop the Lions. The first half of play brought a whopping 42 points for Ennis, while Forney was only able to manage a field goal at the end of the second quarter. Ennis added another twenty-one points to the scoreboard in the third, and the Jackrabbits answered with their only touchdown of the game, which came in the fourth quarter. The final score was 63 for the Ennis Lions to 10 for the Forney Jackrabbits.

Though the Rabbits were not able to secure the win against the Lions, there were some bright spots throughout the night for Forney. Cameron Newell drilled the 47-yard field goal that ended the first half. Cameron has kicked very well all year and will make someone a fine college kicker, if that is what he chooses to do. Junior Braden Merchant continued his fantastic punting this year with a 43-yard average for the night. Both of these young men continue to be excellent weapons for the Jackrabbits.

Defensively, junior Josh Stephens led the team with 7 solo tackles for the night. Junior Dylan Patrick put in a good effort for the night as well, with 3 solo tackles, 1 for a loss, a recovered fumble, and a quarterback sack. Junior Caden Cross and freshman Aaron Flowers each added 2 tackles, and junior Josh Slater had 3 solo tackles.

Offensively, junior Jon’Richard Washington had 85 yards on 20 carries. Sophomore Tyler Pruitt had the Rabbits’ lone touchdown for the night, which came in the fourth quarter. The war between Ennis’ defensive line and Forney’s offensive line was led by Adam Long, junior Reece Mercer, and Ivan Cook.

The Jackrabbits will finally get to play at home this week. The game is scheduled for Friday, November 20, at 7:30 p.m. The officials have been confirmed! The Forney Jackrabbits will face off with the Corsicana Tigers again in an 11-5A seed game. You can toss out any records in this one, as it is sure to be a tough, physical game. Also notable, this game could be the senior players’ last game at City Bank Stadium, depending upon the selection of crossover games for December 4. Don’t miss this opportunity to come out to support the Rabbits and cheer them on! A lively crowd could be a valuable key in getting these young men fired up to play their best and put four quarters together. Visit the Jackrabbits’ website for ticketing information, www.jackrabbitathletics.com. If you’re unable to make it to City Bank Stadium this week, check out sportsgram.net for live audio and video coverage of the game. But as always, no matter how you support the team, don’t forget to cheer for your Forney Jackrabbits!
