**Headline on page one top—North Forney makes playoff berth! A sub-headline stated that “Falcons defeat Mabank, 12—11, Nov. 5 with late-game scoring play.” Quarterback Stephen Buckley led the Falcons on an 11-play, 77-yard touchdown drive that “will live in the memories of Falcons fans forever.”
But the excitement was not over! With 3.3 seconds left in the game, the Mabank kicker trotted onto the field to attempt a 32- yard field goal that would win the game and send them on into the play-offs and leave North Forney at home!
When the ball sailed wide, the North Forney team, coaches, and fans “went absolutely crazy!”
**A little lower on the front page was this headline—Royal earns trip to State Cross Country Meet. Coaches Lath and Timothy Staats posed with NFHS Freshman, Yakeshia Royal, who earned a trip to the 2010 State Cross Country Meet on Saturday, November 13, 2010, in Round Rock.
**In a right-hand briefs column, Kenny Watson, Immediate Past President of the Forney Lions Club, is shown being recognized for his role in achieving positive club growth during his tenure in 2009—2010.
**And an announcement in the same area announced that FISD would be hosting a College and Career Readiness presentation, Tuesday, November 16.
**HOPPIN’ AROUND with Cary presented an observational focus upon three definitions of the word, ”veteran,” since a traditional observation of Veterans’ Day was being observed. The conclusion observed that “Veterans’ Day is the day on which we honor all of America’s military heroes, living and dead.”
The “Editor’s Notepad,” in a left-hand briefs column, focused upon the New Life Food Pantry, which was in need of operating space, since they had been given notice to vacate their current space. People were asked to contact Charles Treadway at First Baptist Church if they were interested in helping in some way or knew of some available space.
**A notice at the bottom left of page one noted that the Forney area had received 0.12 inch of rain from 11/3 to 11/10.
**On page two, readers were asked to “Sign up this week for the Forney Lions Club Angel Tree.” Families who needed assistance with Christmas gifts for their children and lived in Forney ISD were advised to register at one of two sign-up events being held that week at Johnson Elementary School.
**An advertisement on page two asked people to “subscribe to the Messenger today.” The cost: $20.00 per year inside Kaufman County, $25.00 outside Kaufman County, $30.00 outside the State of Texas.
**Another advertisement same page let readers know that GREGG T. PODLESKI, D. O., had an office in Forney, Texas, on E. Hwy 80, #280, and that he was an orthopedic surgeon, board-certified in sports medicine, and accepted all major insurance.
**Page three featured “Forney Police Call and Activity Log,” but I will have to admit that this area received much more readership years earlier when it listed names of OFFENDERS and more details. For example, a criminal mischief report on Boles Street leaves much to the imagination!
**Page four’s main headline stated, “Former Forney runners to compete at NCAA Regional Meet.” Joshua Taylor, 2010 FHS graduate, would represent Abilene Christian—Isac Valdes, 2009 FHS graduate, would represent Angelo State—Jessica Boudreau, 2009 FHS graduate, would represent Midwestern State.
**CiCi’s Pizza advertised an “all-you-can-eat” $3.99 buffet in their newly outfitted dining room in Terrell, Texas, but you had to “bring the ad.”
**Forney’s STARPLEX CINEMAS—Forney Stadium 12—advertised $5.00 tickets before 6:00 p. m. and this same price all the time for “children and seniors.” (more than likely senior citizens and not high school seniors!)
**Page 5 had a “Parnell Plumbing” advertisement, with Terry Parnell as the “owner/operator” and another ad for “Kwik Kar lube & tune,” owned and operated by Gregory and Kathy Green family.
**Page 6 featured photos of the Lady Rabbits Varsity Cross Country Team and the Lady Falcons Varsity Team as they prepared to run in the Region II Cross Country Race on a cold day in Arlington.
**Also on the same page was the “Scoop on Seniors” column, which invited all “Seniors” (60+ years young) to visit the center and take part in one of the games always in progress!
**Page 7 featured “FELF holds 1st of 3 shrimp boils” on campuses that had 100% participation during the annual fund drive. George Brown was cooking corn, and Mary Elsbecker was serving food, while John Taylor and Jim Goldston were preparing more shrimp. Warren Middle School Principal, Ken Pearce, was shown going through the line and “saucing” his shrimp.
**Page 8 showed obituaries of Raymond Lynn Wylie of Forney and Douglas R. Skabo of Terrell and details of 15 different CHURCHES in Forney; all were ready to welcome parishioners and visitors to attend and worship with their congregations.
**Page 9 gave details of two Girl Scout Troops— “Girl Scouts in Troop 3515 are making a difference”— “Girl Scout Troop 9277 attends Sally Ride Science Festival.”
**This same page featured a large advertisement for “Dr. Les T. Sandknop Family Practice” and another for “BAYLOR University Medical Center at Dallas,” which announced, “From Preemie to Precious,” which told the story of Niki Moore, who had twin girls in her 24th week of pregnancy. (They were then 3 years old!)
**Skipping on to page 13, I found “Motorcycle riders to contribute to 2010 Lions Club Angel Tree Project.” The event left the parking lot of BRADY’S HAMBURGERS, was sponsored by Forney’s Brooklyn Masonic Lodge #386, and was open to anyone (with a motorcycle), who wanted to participate and pick up donated toys along the way on the trip. They ate at Brady’s Hamburgers when the ride was concluded!
**Pages 14 and 15 were FULL of various smaller advertisements, and the notice at the bottom said to “call Amy” if you wanted to advertise in the business directory.
**Page 16 gave details about “Turkey Trax Auto-Show is a resounding success” and stated that for the 3rd year the sponsor was the Forney EDC and the host was Gabby of Unique KARZ of Forney. Visitors were asked to bring one or more canned food donations for the Forney Food Pantry.
**The bottom of this page shows a photo of “Clifford,” who paid a visit to Henderson Elementary, and the next page (17) shows, “Criswell Elementary honors veterans.” (many photos)
**Pages 18 and 19 were more smaller advertisements, including a HUGE GARAGE SALE, rain or shine, Chinaberry Trail, under a TENT!—and a house of 1800 sq. ft., 3 bed, 2 bath, corner lot, Diamond Creek Estate--$140,00.00— Sorry, it is already sold!!!
**Page 20 is a giant tribute to “HONORING our VETERANS, Our Heroes!”
**And, the paper concluded with a 6-page football section, featuring the Falcons and Jackrabbits or the Jackrabbits and Falcons! (I cheer for both of them!)
