Sitting in line at McDonald’s in my low-slung Chevy Cruze, where I was preparing to order my standard Diet Coke or Diet Dr. Pepper with extra ice and senior coffee (black), I looked up to see a “giant pick-up truck” pulling in to the other ordering station. In the style “older” Forney High School buddy, Don Morrison, loved to quip, “I said to myself, ‘Self, those giantsized vehicles are why I am scared to drive out on the Interstate!’”
When we had both ordered at just about the same times, I started inching forward but looked up to see the giant truck moving towards the first window, too.
We both saw each other and stopped at the same time. I looked up at a big grin I think I recognized and motioned him to “Go on ahead.” He did so, and then I followed in behind him, listening to “Clearwater” singing “Who will stop the Rain?” (a rather appropriate song for that day!)
As the truck driver paid for his order and slowly moved forward, I noticed that he was not alone in the spacious 4-door cab.
I pulled up to the window and heard a greeting I recognized from the man who is usually the cashier when I pay, “Hey, Captain, how’s it going? The gentleman in the truck in front of you paid for your drinks! Have a great day!”
As I pulled slowly to the “picking up your order” window, I saw that same familiar “grinner” lean over and wave to me with a twinkle in his eye.
I waved back as I watched him “roar off” onto the service road, and I took notice of his back license plate— PROFIRE!
So, PROFIRE, I want you to know that your grin and kindness to this “semi-old” guy MADE MY DAY!
