Subhead
Thank You, Officer, for standing in the Middle!
Body

Date: 10/26/20. Time: Between 8:30 and 9:00 a. m. Conditions: Light to moderate rain, northerly wind increasing, medium traffic, temperatures dropping. Problem: ELECTRICITY “OFF” at the intersection of Pinson Road and the access road to McDonald’s and 7-11, and probably at other locations, too!

I was approaching the Pinson Addition from the north near Criswell Elementary and noticed traffic “slowing” and then flashing emergency lights farther ahead.

As I kept peering through my misty windshield, I noticed that the traffic signal had no illumination and thought to myself, “Oh, no, this could become a major traffic jam and possibly even some dangerous situations (wrecks), since ‘who should stop and who should go’ will be up to the goodness and skills of the drivers!”

However, as I slowed but moved closer to the signal, I could see that there were no wrecks and not even any problems in my opinion. Do you know, “Why?”

Answer: There was a Forney Police vehicle parked as safely as possible in the middle of the intersection, with lights flashing and an Officer standing next to it with a signal light in his hand. And…..he was directing traffic and keeping the flow fair and orderly! There was no MESS!

And, I do appreciate the fact that where he stood was not the safest place for him to be, with vehicles driving by on all sides. But then, again, being a police officer is not the safest job in the world, is it?

I do not know his name, and I do not know if any other officers were involved there or at other locations; however, I do know that I appreciate what he did this morning and all the other times he, and his counterparts, have made and will make our lives in Forney SAFER!
