The meeting was called to order and an invocation given by President Charles Beason.
Minutes of the September meeting were presented by Secretary Jana Garner, and they were unanimously approved, as was the Treasurer’s Report, given by Treasurer Donna Hervey. The consensus was that “all is well” financially and that the latest “Trust” check has been deposited. Also, a PayPal transaction was explained successfully.
The President’s Report by President Beason included a special ‘thanks” to Jana Garner for continuing to set up the ZOOM meetings so that all could be included. He also thanked Margaret Tull for continuing to “minister” to the flowers and foliage out front in the still-hot weather. His final announcement was to confirm that parts of the cast iron kitchen cook stove, except for the very weighty oven firebox, are now safely stored in the Museum and that we will need a “plan” and a heavy duty tractor with a front end lift to complete the moving.
Museum Manager Kendall Milton reported that the early summer slowness has now been “picking up” with visitation also increasing.
The PRAIRIE VIEW CEMETERY PROJECT has been having meetings, and an event has been set for Saturday, November 7, 2020, at Prairie View Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. Any and all interested visitors are invited.
There will be several “stations” at the Cemetery, including an over-all lay out map of the grounds, biographical and genealogical information for burials, gravestone cleaning and upkeep demonstrations, and a discussion of future connections to the downtown area, such as with a walk-way.
Copies of all the committee/class work details will be given to the Museum for reference after the project is complete.
We need to have word of the event spread throughout the Community.
The Museum plans to again have a VETERANS DISPLAY in the Multi-Purpose Room this November.
The Downtown Business Association plans to again have “Stories with Santa,” and we have again volunteered to help out and to have the MPR available in case of inclement weather.
A Boy Scout tour of the Museum is scheduled for December.
OLD BUSINESS included continuing the discussion of possibly doing something to retard the possible flaking of exterior bricks—continuing the discussion of selling the wood-burning cook stove—more discussion of the Prairie View Cemetery event—discussion of FHPL Board Membership and who is eligible for being elected again and who still has time left in his/her term.
NEW BUSINESS included the possibility of having the annual FHPL Members/ Christmas Meeting (usually held in December), possible revisions to FHPL By-Laws, and a possible outside use of the MPR (room) for a “filming session.” No action was taken on any of these at this time.
As ZOOM was quickly closing its allotted time, we set November 9 as the next meeting and adjourned after a unanimous vote.
