Earlier this month, the Forney City Council voted to provide extra funding to the Forney Police Department for the purchase of new body worn video technology and the associated equipment. This useful upgrade for Forney’s officers comes at no extra cost to tax payers, though, as it is a result of the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, or CARES Act. Signed into law in March 2020, the CARES Act was established to provide direct economic assistance for individuals, families, small businesses, and government bodies. This CARES Grant Funding from the U.S. Treasury is intended to supplement budgets of the recipients to cover costs associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. As the Forney Police Department, like all other emergency response services, has taken on additional risk and responsibility in order to navigate new body cams allows for this new Coronavirus less frequent charging re reality, the purchase of quirements as well as limiting much of the need to touch other officers’ equipment.

“Although the Forney Police Department is already equipped with body worn cameras, the passage of this item will allow us to have the newest body worn technology with sufficient battery capacity to last an officer’s entire shift,” said Forney’s Police Chief, Mica Lunt. “Additionally, these cameras allow officers to download the captured footage wirelessly without the need to physically dock the device and touch multiple other officers’ equipment. In the time of COVID-19, this helps our police officers stay healthy.”

Thanks to this funding from the Coronavirus Relief Fund shared by the City of Forney, Forney citizens will now be even better served by the Forney Police Department as our officers “strive for excellence in police service through integrity, servant leadership, high ethical standards, and the respectful treatment of all”, as the Forney PD website states.
