At Brown Middle School, the College and Career Readiness students have been hard at work. Students are taking a deep dive inside themselves to learn more about who they are, what matters most to them and what type of future is best for them.
Their teacher, Mrs. Branton believes that in order to know where you are going, you need to assess where you are from. To help with that process, students read and analyzed a poem by George Ella Lyon, Where I’m From. Then, they used their knowledge to write a poem about their own life, discovering along the way how their experiences have shaped their values, personalities and vision for their futures. Next, they will begin creating a step by step plan to put their vision into action by discovering careers that interest them and creating a plan to achieve their goals.
Many students will go on to take dual credit and ap courses in high school, some will stick with a vocational certification program in high school and all will carry their knowledge into life after graduation. These students are really putting the work in to uncover hidden talents and interests in order to create a road map that will lead to happiness and success.
Hey all you Brown Bears, go get that tiger by the tail!
