Pirate Stadium was buzzing as the band was warming up and fans were entering the stadium for the first time this season. Crandall’s home opener would be a tough matchup against a good Longview Pine Tree team. Both teams entered the night’s game 1-0 on the season.

Pine Tree took possession of the ball first and marched down the field with a seven-play scoring drive. Both teams exchanged punts before Crandall’s Austin Cruise threw an interception in their own territory. Pine Tree only needed two plays to drive it into the endzone. This made the score 0-13 midway through the first quarter.

The Pine Tree Pirates offense was quick while their defensive line and secondary were tough to get anything going against. It was all Pine Tree the first half. At the end of one quarter it was 20-0 Pine Tree. The second quarter was much of the same as Pine Tree’s quarterback threw for two touchdowns making the score 0-41 at the half.

The third quarter started off with another Pine Tree score before the Crandall Pirates offense started to click a little. Slot receiver Samuel Omosigho turned on the boosters for an eighty-yard touchdown reception from senior quarterback Austin Cruise. The Crandall defense was able to force a three and out on the next Pine Tree possession. Cruise proceeded to march the Pirates down the field on a thirteen-play scoring drive. Running back Chris Abron finished the drive with a twenty-five yard touchdown run. At the end of three quarters the score was 14-48 Pine Tree.

Both Pirates teams tacked on two more touchdowns each in the fourth quarter. The final score was 28-62 Pine Tree. At the final horn there was a whopping 1,024 total yards of offense between the two teams. Pine Tree’s passing game (321 yards and 5 touchdowns) and their strong run defense were the key factors in the game. They held Chris Abron and the Pirate running game to 83 yards.

The Crandall Pirates will face the 1-1 Joshua Owls Friday at home. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
