Life is short or long depending on how the day is unfolding. Many fleeting moments linger longer in memories then some weeks or months of activities which for students can look like a glorious smile when they receive a test back with the hoped-for grade or the shy look a new student gives his or her classmates.

A good teacher notices when their students have a “light bulb moment” during class; a great teacher seizes the moment and cements the memory for the student. Really great teachers linger in the memory of their former students for decades after those school days are over.

Forney ISD has many great teachers who have retired but are still important to the memories of the former students in FISD and the names of our schools.

Forney Education Foundation recognizes just how important teachers are to the process of education. And that is why the motto of the Foundation is “Lighting the Way for Teaching and Learning.” In 2008, the Foundation began funding teacherrequested grants to help the teachers in ForneyISD to enhance the classroom experience for the students in their individual classes. There have been many wonderful and innovative grants funded over the past 11 years; teachers have worked individually and collaboratively for over a decade on these steps forward in pedagogy.

The window for requesting grants by the teachers opens September 28 through October 30 this year. If you know a teacher in Forney ISD, encourage them to research and request a grant for their class. Then be on the lookout for the opportunity to Adopt-a-Grant from November 9-20! This is an amazing oppor

tunity to completely fund a grant. Or, you can go to www. forneyisdfoundation.org and make a donation of whatever amount you would like -- no amount is too small since the direct donations added together let us make big memories. Won’t you help the great teachers in Forney ISD create lasting memories for their students?
