The “Covid 19” struck area teams as three had to find new opponents for Sept. 11 games. Nevada Community vs. Paris North Lamar (covid cases), Kaufman vs. Henderson (covid), and Aubrey vs. Gainesville (covid)—the cases, it seems, were very limited, but no one wants to take unnecessary chances. Some rescheduling took place as you will see as results are reported!
From what I read and hear (Sept. 10), the following games should be good! Argyle, which never trailed, won 35—21 at Celina, which was down by 21 points early but fought back to make it 21—14 before the Eagles buckled down and moved the score back out of reach. Argyle is now 3—0, while Celina is 0—3, but the two records do not reflect the intense action on the field!
Midlothian Heritage won 28—25 at Decatur. The last play of the game thrilled some hearts and almost stopped others, as Heritage’s defensive stand at the goal line stopped Decatur, who had decided to go for the win rather than the possibly tying field goal. Midlothian led 21—7 at the half.
Tyler Chapel Hill won 51—42 at Terrell. The score was 38—35 early in the 3rd quarter and 45—42 a little later, but Tyler had one more score left for the 4th quarter (though they missed the kick) to seal the victory!
Sanger won 35—8 at Howe, as Sanger’s big 2nd quarter with three TDs was too much for their game opponents.
Pottsboro lost 17—51 at Melissa, which led 30—3 at halftime, so it was not as close as some thought it might be. Pottsboro narrowed the lead in the 3rd quarter with two early TDs, but that was all for them, as Melissa added 3 more TDs before the final whistle.
Sunnyvale lost 27—28 at Kennedale, which so far has been a “bubble school” as reporters have called it due to “on-line classes only” to this point. And, due to Dallas County regulations, Sunnyvale had to delay fall practices until August 17— so, both teams might have been at some disadvantages! Sunnyvale scored 10, 7, 7, 3 for its 27 tally, while Kennedale posted 0, 13, 6, 9. The game-winning 22-yd. field goal went through the uprights as time expired!
Quinlan Ford won 32—16 at Ferris, but the game was a tie after three periods at “8—all.” Three straight TD drives late in the game made the difference, though, as Ford remained undefeated at 3 wins and no losses!
Spring Hill won 48—28 vs. Nevada Community in this “hurry covid reschedule” game. The score was 14— 14 with about 4 minutes left in the 1st half, but the Spring Hill Panthers went wild with 34 unanswered points to take the victory and spoil Community’s bid for its first victory this season.
Van Alstyne lost 36—38 at Anna, the Coyotes. Van Alstyne’s Panthers put 20 points on the board in the final quarter to double Anna’s 10, but it was not quite enough to counteract Anna’s 21 pts in the 2nd period. Both teams tallied 7 points in the 1st quarter, and Van Alstyne had 9 points in the “middle.”
Krum lost 31—33 at Farmersville, but it was a “barnburner,” with the game knotted at the end of quarter one, 14—14. Krum added 3 then 7 then 7 more the next three quarters, but the Farmers did them “2 better” with 6 then 7 then 6. Krum scored the final touchdown but could not get a chance for a tying field goal!
Life Waxahachie won 21—14 at Brownsboro. Waxahachie trailed 13—14 at the halftime break, after both teams were scoreless for the 1st quarter. The 3rd quarter was also devoid of scoring, but not action, and finally Waxahachie used a 24 yard run for the TD and then a 2-pt. PAT to take the 7-point final victory!
Kaufman lost 21—52 vs. Aubrey in a “hurry-up” rescheduled game after “covid fears” at original opponent, Henderson, forced a cancellation. Aubrey (21 points in the 1st quarter) is now 3—0, while Kaufman (scored a TD in each of 1st three quarters) falls to 0—3, even though they gave a valiant effort! Kaufman out-passed their opponent, but Aubrey ran wild rushing with approximately 500 yards before the night was over!
(Updates were added Sept. 14.)
I hope to have FORNEY information next week as the action should begin with the Forney Jackrabbits playing the Whitehouse Wildcats in Forney on September 25 and the North Forney Falcons opening on September 24 against the Lone Star Rangers in Frisco.
Go get ‘em, BOTH FORNEY TEAMS!
