Body

The whirr of wings when you accidentally flush a bird from its hiding place can startle you and give you pause. The same can be said about watching a student ”get it” and understand what the teacher is teaching. The art of teaching is tightly linked to seeing the lightbulb moments when students make a new connection.

Good teachers find different ways to teach the same lesson to their students, depending on the student’s own abilities. Forney ISD is blessed to have many, many wonderful teachers that understand that not all of their students learn the same way. Forney Education Foundation recognizes how difficult it sometimes is to teach all of the students that come through a class room door. And that is one of the reasons that the Foundation created the Teacher Requested Grant Program.

The importance of the Grant Program can never be stated enough how meaningful it is to the classrooms that have so far benefitted from the funding of the requested grants. The teachers that have had their requests granted have been able to see first hand the results. It is so very gratifying to see the “got it” look on the students’ faces in their classes.

Because innovation is always ongoing in the classroom, teachers should be considered the frontline workers of educational reform. They are the people who know best what does and doesn’t work, as well as how easy or difficult it is for their students to achieve the level of competence as required by testing. And the Foundation’s purpose is to support all the students-- and by extension the teachers and staff-- in Forney ISD.
