Friday, September 11, was a day of celebration for the City of Crandall. After about two years of construction and preparations, the new Police, Court, and Fire Department Buildings for the City of Crandall hosted a grand opening ceremony for members of the community. The buildings, which have now been in operation since March of this year, provide state of the art workspaces for these departments, including beautifully appointed sleeping and dining quarters for the Crandall Fire Department and ample space for records keeping, court proceedings, and investigations by the Crandall Police Department.
The morning brought beautiful weather, as City and County officials and staff, members of CPD and CFD, and others gathered for the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremonies. Following opening remarks by Police Chief Dean Winters, Crandall Mayor Danny Kirbie, and David Kirk, President of Kaufman County ESD No. 7, the socially distanced crowd enjoyed lunch from Sticky Ribz BBQ and Hot Rodz provided by Vista Church, as well as desserts and drinks from Kona Ice Sno Cones, Misty’s Sweet Treats, Main Street Coffee & Baking Co., and Crandall Nutrition. An ensemble from the Crandall High School band entertained guests over lunch and while tours were made throughout the buildings.
The much-anticipated completion of these facilities comes as a result of the hard work which began under the leadership of previous Crandall Mayor Cody Frazier and continued through the teamwork of countless others in the City and these Departments under the leadership of Mayor Kirbie. “This was Cody’s dream that started a few years back, and this is because of him. We as a group picked up after the fact [and completed] what Cody got started,” Mayor Kirbie said. “This has been a good thing for Crandall; it’s been a dream and a vision,” Mayor Kirbie continued. “It’s been a task, and we’ve done a good job. You can hold your heads up proud.”
The neighboring buildings provide many needed improvements to the Crandall Fire and Police Departments as they serve the growing Crandall community. Citizen tours also took place on Saturday, September 12, to allow Crandall residents another opportunity to view the facilities.
