Body

Would you be willing to spend nearly two months separated from your family and instead in close quarters with a virus responsible for nearly 100,000 deaths? Not many would readily sign up for that, but that’s just what local resident Marlene Rosana did. A nurse practitioner, Dr. Rosana had no second thoughts about volunteering to assist the medical community in New York. In fact, she says that to her “it wasn’t really a question.”

The opportunity arose as Marlene read accounts from a friend who was serving alongside doctors and nurses in New York. Having been in the medical field for nearly two decades, the gravity of the situation was evident to Marlene as cases there continued to pile up. She was moved by the stories of men and women whose bodies were ravaged by the effects of COVID-19, but were forced to come to terms with receiving treatment in facilities far from the comfort of their own family members and friends. It was then that she knew she could make a difference. Dr. Rosana was determined to go be a consolation to those people and many others who needed not only medical expertise, but someone to simply hold their hands and be by their sides during such an isolating and terrifying experience.
