The Forney City Council has scheduled another fantastic new event for area families to enjoy! The Forney Festival of Lights is scheduled to debut during the holiday season of 2020 in light of a resolution passed on Tuesday, April 21, by the City Council that authorized City Manager, Tony Carson, to execute an agreement with Mosca Designs. Based out of North Carolina, Mosca Designs a holiday décor company that specializes in commercial light displays. Their work can be seen in a number of cities across the nation.

Forney’s custom light exhibit will be on display throughout the trail system at Forney Community Park. During the approved fiveyear contract with optional extension, Mosca Designs will provide updated lights and displays annually, allowing visitors a different experience when they return each year. Visitors will purchase a ticket for a small fee to be shuttled throughout the light display on two trams that were recently approved for purchase. The shuttles will not only allow for the generation of revenue from the event, but also create a way to ensure that all citizens can enjoy the magical sights of the holiday.

As for the financial impact on the City, Mosca Designs has agreed to a 50/50 revenue sharing agreement. The City will pay $75,000 initially, which will be used for the manufacturing of the holiday displays, but then receive fifty percent of all ticket sales revenues above that $75,000 contribution. Additionally, with the credit that the City will receive due to its displays being stored locally rather than out of state, as well as the fact that the previously-budgeted $600K will now be put back into the general fund, the Forney Festival of Lights is said to likely become a revenue generator for the City.

Combined with the plans to include photo ops, visits with Santa, and other holiday favorites, this unique addition to Forney’s events is expected to be a quick favorite. In recent years, the City has continued to add a variety of attractions to the docket for the community to enjoy throughout the year. Just in this last year, two very successful inaugural events took place – Brews on Bois d’ Arc and the New Year’s Eve Ball Drop. The City Council and Staff are dedicated to continuing to bring events like these to citizens, cultivating the goal of Forney to remain a great place to live, work, and play.
