Forney ISD and the Fine Arts Department is excited to welcome Cody Newman as the new director of bands at Forney High School. Newman has served as the Poteet High School director of bands for the last 9 years, where he has earned the UIL Sweepstakes award each year, been a consistent qualifier to the UIL State Marching Contest, was a 2017 finalist in the Texas Music Educators Association Honor Band, and placed 5th overall in the 2017 UIL State Marching Championships.
“Music education is not just my profession or career, it’s my life’s work,” Newman said. “I look forward to continuing my life’s work here in my own community as part of the Forney Family.”
Newman started his band instruction career 14 years ago after performing with the nationally recognized, Sudler Trophy winning Goin’ Band from Raiderland and the University Concert Band at Texas Tech University. In 2006 he became the associate director at Poteet High School before moving into his current role as director of bands in 2011.
