Avoid. Deny. Defend. On the evening of Thursday, February 27, over 350 area residents gathered to learn exactly what those terms mean in relation to active mass attacks. Led by Forney’s Chief of Police, Mica Lunt, and CareFlite Paramedic, Doug Schletz, this two and a half hour training seminar focused on fostering a resilience and empowerment in citizens, rather than allowing an attitude of fear or fatalism to take root.

The unfortunate reality today is that the threat of mass shootings, or mass attacks involving any other weapon, is something that has or will affect our lives in some form. At the very least, it is imperative that we allow these events to affect us in such a way that it propels us to action.

The presentation, hosted by First Baptist Church of Forney, was attended by folks of every age, gender, race, and creed. After an opening word of prayer by Executive Pastor for FBC Forney, Ed Hancock, Chief Lunt led the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence before diving into information that he has presented to thousands already.
